Rev. James J. Dyrek, 65, was the pastor of St. Joseph Church, Holland, New York. He attended Our Lady of the Angels Seminary, Niagara University and was ordained on June 11, 1938. He served as assistant pastor at St. John Cantius, Buffalo; St. John Gualbert, Cheektowaga; SS. Peter and Paul, Williamsville; Our Lady of Czestachowa, North Tonawanda, and St. Stanislaus, Buffalo.

His first pastorate was at St. Isaac Jogues, Sherman and St. Thomas More, Ripley (1959-1964). He was an official of the diocesan Marriage Tribunal and served as director and vice president of the Polish Clergy Association. During his 15 year pastorate at St. Joseph, Father Dyrek oversaw the construction of a new parish church and rectory in Holland.
