Louis J. Skiba June 9, 1922 - August 2, 2018
Louis J. Skiba, 96 years old, passed away on August 2, 2018, at Schoellkopf Health Care Center. He was born on June 9, 1922, the son of the late Ludwik and Karolina (Darlak) Skiba. Mr. Skiba attended Holy Trinity Parolchial School and was a graduate of Trott Vocational High School. Mr. Skiba served with the United States Army in the Seventh Army Headquarters from October 23, 1942 until his honorable discharge on October 2, 1945, with the rank of Technical Sergeant. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
Mr. Skiba was a life member of Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church where he served as Sacristan and an usher for many years. He was also a member of their Holy Name Society, St. Vincent DePaul Society, Visitation of the Sick Committee and church choir. He was an active parish bingo worker and was a former member of the Holy Trinity Parish Council. On April 29, 1990, he was the recipient of the St. Joseph Award at St. Joseph's Cathedral in Buffalo.
Mr. Skiba was predeceased by his sister, Jane Skiba and his brothers, Edward Skiba and Anthony Skiba. He is survived by a niece, Mary Wenger and two great-nieces, April and Diane, all of Georgia. Friends called on Sunday from 2 until 5 PM at the LABUDA FUNERAL HOME, INC., 356 Portage Road. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Monday at 10:00 AM, at Divine Mercy Parish, corner of Niagara and 24th Streets with Bishop Edward M. Grosz, DDVG. Interment with Military Honors in Holy Trinity Cemetery.
