Rev. Ladislaus J. Bartkowski was born in Janowka, West Prussia, the son of Katherine and Francis Bartkowski and was brought to America a year later. He went to school in Buffalo, New York, and trained for the priesthood at St. Mary Seminary, Orchard Lake, Michigan and at Our Lady of the Angels Seminary, Niagara University. He was ordained a priest of the Diocese of Buffalo, New York on March 15, 1902 at the age of 22. His first assignment was at St. Stanislaus Church, Buffalo and six months later was named pastor of Holy Trinity Parish, Niagara Falls.
Father Bartkowski was named pastor of Holy Cross Parish, Salamanca on July 5, 1903 and served there for six years. Next he was named pastor of Transfiguration, Olean but served only eight months before becoming the chaplain of the Felician Sisters in Doyle, New York, remaining there until 1912.
He was thereafter a rector in Holland, New York; a chaplain in Gardenville, New York; and and assistant at St. Stanislaus, Buffalo; St. Hedwig, Dunkirk and St. Cecilia, Oakfield. Burial at Saint Stanislaus Roman Catholic Cemetery, Cheektowaga, NY
